We gave it a shot anyways and it smoked a 10 pound butt in 8 hours (should have been 12). I called Brinkmann and they offered to send me a new heat element but I decided this was the wrong smoker. Also you place the wood on top of the lava rocks next to the heater, not only did I have to get someone else bag of wood chunks about 4 hours in, it's a pain the clean the ash mixed with the lava rocks. I supplanted it with the Brinkmann Verticial galvanic Smoker, it was about twice the price and twice the value.
